Gelderse Vallei Hospital and Wageningen University closely cooperate on the subject of nutrition. In hospitals, nutrition can make all the difference. National research shows that 20 to 40% of patients is malnourished at the start of hospital treatment.
Frail elderly, chronically ill patients and preoperative patients are particularly at risk. When malnourished, recovery takes longer, and the incidence of complications and even mortality is higher. Often, malnourishment is not recognized.
Care Path Nutrition
Already during the first consult at the GP or at the ‘polyclinic’ (so before actual hospital admittance) many patients turn out to be malnourished. In the ‘Care Path Nutrition’ patients are given structural attention with regards to nutrition: both before, during and after hospital stay.
